Journey so far...

Building Bright Futures

December 2012

Akash Ganga Educational Society (AGES) was registered under Societies Registration Act in Uttarkashi with the vision of providing holistic education to children of economically humbled background in rural area.

August 2013

The AGES initiates its first pilot project with a primary school in a rented building. 30 children and 6 teachers worked in a very simply furnished setup, with minimum infrastructure. The local support for the project was an important motivating factor for us.

April 2014

The increasing number of children (from 30 in 2013 to 80 in April 2014) was a positive and challenging development for AGES. The available space became a bottleneck for us and we started looking for more suitable options together with the local community and parents.

We obtained the official recognition from the state authorities to run the primary school in April 2014 itself.

October 2014

Together with parents of our students, we were able to obtain a piece of land (approx. 1300 SqM in size) on lease for carrying our dream forward. Soon, we began with the construction planning of the school building and necessary facilities. The local member of parliament (MP) appreciated our work and extended generous financial support for starting the construction.

February 2016

Himalayan School of Life (HSL) opened its doors to the larger local community by moving the school in its own premises. The bare minimum facilities did not reduce the joy of teachers and students in making the school popular in the neighbourhood.

July 2016

The school’s popularity showed itself in the fast growth of number of children from 80 to 128 by July 2016 and the number of trained teachers from 6 to 11.

We now have transport facilities to bring children from 17 villages to our school and cover a radius of about 12km. The school has become a social movement in the area offering education to children, particularly girls, who never went to school before.

July 2017

Our efforts to upgrade the school from primary to upper-primary English-medium brought us official recognition to run the school up to 8th Grade.

August 2017

The HSL became the first school in the area to pioneer the ideas of “smart classes” by offering to students audio-video based support in their learning processes.

October 2017

The HSL kids won excellent awards and prizes in National level art competition organised by Rangotsav Celebration Mumbai.

December 2017

11 students of HSL successfully completed Adventure Course at Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM) Uttarkashi, The best Mountaineering Institute in India.

May 2018

Started Sewing Training Centre for the village girls and women totally charitable.

Our Unfolding Dream

To become a residential school, offering dorm facilities to children from remote villages and practice “gurukul” form of education.

We also hope to consolidate our resources towards upgrading the school up to 10th Grade.
