About Us

Himalayan School of Life is an educational home to children of economically humble backgrounds. Located amidst the glory of the Himalayan Mountains, our school aims to provide holistic education to children where the classroom is not simply in the class but with the world around them. We guide them in leading wholesome lives, not only providing paths of livelihood but opening them to ways in which they can lead their lives happily.

It is equally important to give the children an environment that is free of aggression and fear. The young ones living in the hamlets near the school come from poor backgrounds. The parents don’t have access or means to send their wards to schools of big towns or cities. The local option for primary education does not meet the expectation. So Himalayan School of Life was created to fill the gap of quality, life impacting education within the means of everyone around. The school currently has more than 130 children, one administrator, 11 teachers, and support staff. It comprises of Early Childhood Education (ECE) based playgroup, a nursery, a kindergarten for young children below the age of six.

While the primary focus is on ECE, Himalayan School of Life opens doors to people of all ages to come and experience the joy of holistic learning with our children.

Founded by Akash Ganga Educational Society, Himalayan School of Life is the brainchild of Om Prakash Gupta who has dedicated his life to spiritual quest and in 2010, decided on establishing and practicing a wholesome form of educational life. This idea has actualized in the form of Himalayan School of Life and is now home to over 130 students.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Himalayan School of Life not only teaches academic subjects but also imparts value education and skill.

We found that the young Garhwali children were devoid of enriching experience in the learning stage of pre-school education. We created amicable atmosphere around the concept of learning through involvement, exploration, creativity, and understanding through play. We devised ‘play-learning’ materials from local resources prepared by school teachers themselves. The significant message conveyed parents, grandparents and other guardians in the community was that the pre-school education is not on the lines of a primary school. The formal learning of alphabets, numbers, and writing can smoothly happen only if the child is ready for it. The preparation happens through first-hand experiences as planned in our school curriculum laying the foundation for future learning.
